Driver Acquitted of Mobile Phone Offence After Trial

Laura Newton was instructed to represent a driver who was alleged to have been using his mobile telephone whilst driving. He denied this and took the case to trial. The Police Officers attended Court to give evidence but their accounts were undermined by careful cross examination casting doubt on how accurate their view had been. The driver was found not guilty. This was a huge relief as he already had 6 points on his licence and and a conviction would have resulted in a totting up disqualification. Instead his licence remained in tact and he was granted a costs order to allow his legal costs to be reclaimed.
