Motorists Reminded to Update TfL with Cherished Plate Changes

Motorists driving into the capital within the ULEZ area must abide with the terms of the ULEZ road charging scheme. This includes updating TFL with cherished plate changes

TfL have a vehicle checker which will allow you to see verify whether your vehicle is compliant or whether a daily charge should be paid. You can also register for a TfL Autopay account here.  This means that if any charges do apply, they will be taken automatically before they escalate.

Failure to pay the daily charge results in a PCN being issued, which can quickly escalate to an increased and enforceable debt if not paid quickly or effectively challenged.

Many drivers face issues because they forget to update TfL when they add a cherished plate to their vehicle. The DVLA system does not always transfer the same data and complaint vehicles can attract many penalties because of this.

The best advice is to go back to the vehicle checker using this link. If the new registration plate is not recognised, you should contact TfL with the details and the vehicle registration and make sure that it is recognised as a compliant vehicle. You can make an enquiry here.

A TfL ULEZ daily charge is £12.50 for cars and small vehicles. Failure to pay results in a Penalty Charge of up to £180. If bailiffs enforce the debt, the fees increase further.
